And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Your Spiritual Formation Journey

This tool will be a helpful road map with the Holy Spirit as your compass and guide to prayerfully determine the next steps in your spiritual journey. Thank the Lord for His grace and abundant provision in your life and His promise that He will never leave you or forsake you on your journey.

As you grow in your walk with the Lord, CFC offers a variety of community environments and Spiritual Formation classes to support your journey from exploring the claims of Christ toward spiritual maturity in Christ.

Step 1: Assess Your Current Stage

Review the descriptions of four markers in one’s spiritual journey (Exploring, Believing, Growing, Maturing) to help identify your current level of maturity and begin to develop a plan to continue growing in the grace and knowledge of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Remember that the Christian life is not a list of things we do but rather who are in Christ. The descriptions at each stage of the journey are intended to help you consider potential next steps in your journey.

Exploring

You have a sincere concern about questions dealing with the deeper things in life. At this stage you are exploring the claims of Christianity and seeking answers to questions like these.

  • What is my purpose in life?
  • Does God really exist?
  • Is the Bible reliable?
  • How can Jesus be the only way to Heaven?
  • If God is all loving, why is there so much suffering in the world?
  • How can experience greater joy, peace and hope in this broken world?

Believing

  • You have placed your faith in Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for your sins and have received God’s free gift of eternal life by grace through faith.
  • You have started a regular process of reading the Bible and prayer to begin growing in this new relationship with Jesus.
  • Each week you attend a worship service and seek fellowship with other Christians.
  • You recognize the need to learn how to share your faith with others.
  • You have been baptized as a Believer showing the world that you are now identified with Jesus Christ and you desire to put Him first in your life.

Growing

  • Your walk with the Lord is growing through prayer and the study of God’s Word.
  • Your life is more consistently under the control of the Holy Spirit.
  • You share the gospel regularly.
  • You are a committed member of this local church and are serving in your area of giftedness.
  • You recognize that your time, talents, and treasures belong to the Lord.
  • Your relationships are being transformed as you grow in love, forgiveness humility, self-control and other Christian graces.
  • You actively participate in authentic, small group community where discipleship and mutual care are lived out.
  • You have started to mentor others in their journey with Christ.

Maturing

  • Your life is marked by a desire to reproduce your faith in the lives of others through personal discipleship.
  • Not only do you demonstrate a deep conviction for the Word of God as the ultimate authority in all you do, but you teach and mentor others in the essential doctrines of the Christian faith.
  • Your life is dedicated to servant hood as you lead in small groups and other ministries.
  • You join with the Apostle Paul in saying that you have not “arrived” but you forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead, continually growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
  • You strive to live sacrificially.
  • Above all else, you are a person of prayer as you stand firm in the spiritual battles of this world as you long for your heavenly home.

Step 2: Plan your Next Steps

Review the “Next Steps” on the links below based on your current stage of spiritual development.

Develop a Personal Growth Plan that includes a few practical next steps of faith. Share your plan with those in your sphere of accountability (spouse, close friend in Christ, small group, etc). Commit your plan to the Lord and follow His leading as He directs your steps. Take time to celebrate growth along the way as the Lord continually transforms you into the likeness of Christ with ever increasing glory.
